For students and graduates who want to attend

Q1: What is a virtual career fair?

A virtual career fair is an online recruitment event which brings together job seekers with potential employers. The fair can be accessed simply via your internet browser and does not require the attendees to physically go anywhere. Visually, the virtual fair resembles a dashboard with an overview of the different company stalls, information on the companies and vacant positions as well as an instant messenger tool via which candidates and recruiters can communicate directly with each other.

Q2: Where and when does the Graduateland Virtual Career Fair 2017 take place?

The event takes place online on Wednesday the 8th of February, 2017, between 11.00 am and 4.00 pm (Central European Time).

Q3: Who can attend the Graduateland Virtual Career Fair 2017?

The Graduateland Virtual Career Fair 2017 is mainly directed towards students and graduates who are looking for internships, student jobs, graduate positions or those, who simply want to get to know some companies as their potential future employers. Most of the participating companies which have been confirmed so far have a particular emphasis on recruiting students and graduates educated in the areas of business, IT and engineering, who are potentially interested in employment in Scandinavia, the UK and the Benelux. However, the event is potentially open to all curious minds who would like to try out an innovative way of job searching and recruiting.

Q4: How can I attend the Virtual Career Fair?

In order to attend you need to create an account on Graduateland.com (if you are enrolled at one of our 22 partner universities you can alternatively use your student account to sign up via their career portal). You can use that account to log in on February 8th 2017 – we will publish the link to the Graduateland Virtual Career Fair venue a couple of days before the event.

However, we also recommend you to register for the event previous to their fair. Once you register, you will receive a confirmation email and, on the day of the event, an email with the link to the virtual fair.

Q5: Is it free of charge to attend the Graduateland Virtual Career Fair 2017?

Yes.

Information about the companies and recruiter chats

Q6: Which companies will participate?

The following companies will participate: Amadeus, Amcor, British American Tobacco, Danske Bank, Deloitte, GN Store Nord, Handelsbanken, L'Oréal, Novo Nordisk, Philip Morris International, Siemens, Telenor, TK Maxx. This list is not final, we have more companies to come and you can follow the progress on our Instagram #GraduatelandVCF17.

Q7: Who will represent the companies?

The number and the position of the representatives depend on the individual companies. However, you can expect to meet the recruiters, current interns and as well as other younger employees who will share their experiences with you.

Q8: How can I chat with the companies at the Graduateland Virtual Career Fair 2017?

At the virtual career fair, you will be able to chat 1 on 1 with the company representatives by clicking on a “Chat now” button and choosing the topic you want to chat about. You will be assigned a chat partner from the respective company who can answer the questions on the topic you have chosen. You will also be able to see how many people are in line before you, waiting to chat, so you can plan your schedule accordingly.

Q9: What information can I expect to get from the companies at the fair?

At each company stall, you will be able to see the vacant positions for which you can apply. You can also read general information about the company, read FAQs from other applicants, watch videos and look at company pictures. All this information will be available before February 8th, so you can (and should!) use it for preparation!

The chats are for more specific questions you might have. You will be able to save your chats on your Graduateland account, so you can follow up with the company later.

Q10: What information about me will the companies have access to?

They will have an access to your Graduateland profile and to the CV you have uploaded. The recruiters will also be able to save the chats they have had with you for future reference.

Preparing for a virtual career fair

Q11: Why should I prepare for a virtual career fair?

It always pays off to prepare for a recruitment event, so you can show the best of you when it really counts. In the case of the virtual career fair, that is particularly important because you will interact with the recruiters 1 on 1 via chat - so the quality of your questions will strongly influence the impression you will make (especially since both you and the company representative will be able to save the chats to your profiles).

Q12: What should I focus on during my research?

Start by having a look at what kind of companies are attending and look into the way they present themselves as an employer. While you do this, make sure to note which company profiles have the most overlaps with your interests and skills. Remember, that the more insights you gain about the company in advance, the more in-depth will your chats be on the day.

Q13: When is a good time to start with my preparation?

Recruiters will be able to look at your Graduateland profile, so the first order of business is to make sure it represents you in a favorable way - you can do that pretty much straight away. On our event page you can get an overview the companies attending, so you will be able to do your own online research beforehand during January. In early February, information for all attending companies will also be available on Graduateland.com, and you should definitely have a look at that.

Q14: Should I prepare my questions in advance?

It’s always a good idea to prepare questions in advance, but it’s more important to think about what type of questions to ask.

DON’T just approach a company and ask “What have you got for me?” INSTEAD use your research to prepare more concrete questions, for example, about the application process, the skills they are looking for in a candidate or the work environment.

Also be aware, that the recruiter might ask some questions about your background and your profile, so have some answers prepared on your part as well.

Q15: Is it expected that I’m ready to apply at the event?

No, it’s perfectly fine when you are still exploring and want to use the fair to have a look into different opportunities. However, the 1 on 1 chats with companies will still be more fruitful when you have a small intro about yourself prepared that includes what you would like to get out of the virtual career fair.

Registration and documents

Q16: Why should I register ahead of the event?

We recommend that you register for the Graduateland Virtual Career Fair 2017 before the actual event on February 8th. Your advantage: leading up to the event, you will receive reminders and information on the companies that you can use to optimally prepare yourself and make the most of your chat time with the recruiters. This is your chance to show the best of you to a potential future employer!

(It also helps us to better plan the event and give you the best possible experience.)

Q17: How do I register?

You can simply register simply using your Graduateland account. If you do not have an account, you can create one for free by clicking on the SignUp button at the top of this FAQ or on Graduateland.com. When you register you will be asked to provide:

  • Your name

  • Your current CV

Q18: Can I update my CV after registering?

Yes, you can update it on your Graduateland profile page.

Q19: Do I need to cancel my registration if I find myself unable to attend the event?

It would be much appreciated if you could unsubscribe should this happen, as it would help us with the organisation of the event. You can cancel your registration on the event page.
