The research into the Baltic region and Eastern Europe conducted at Södertörn University is one of the university’s strongholds and focus of three of the centers: The Centre for Baltic and East European Studies (CBEES), The Stockholm Centre for Health and Social Change (SCOHOST) researching population health and well-being, with a special focus on Eastern Europe, and MARIS, the center for maritime archaeological research, too specialising primarily in the Baltic Sea region.

The remaining four centres cover further specialised areas: Centre for Studies in Practical Knowledge researches the interconnections between different types of knowledge, ENTER forum is devoted to the study and education in entrepreneurship, The Academy of Public Administration is concerned with public administration, while The Institute of Contemporary History specialises in Sweden’s history. This cross section illustrates university’s broad-ranging and diverse educational offer.
