The energy industry is evolving at a very fast pace, the need for electric power resiliency is being driven by more stringent reliability requirements in the power supply, this requirement puts pressure on the need to design and implement complex energy systems where power generation and power demand is precisely controlled and coordinated to ensure maximum reliability for essential services while maximizing the cost benefit operation of the facility.
The Measurement and Validation (M&V) and the Central Plant (CP) organizations work very closely with multiple groups within Noresco to achieve these goals, the Co-Op position will be part of the Central Plant organization but will perform work for both M&V and CP teams. This position offers multiple opportunities to work on challenging engineering problems and to develop and apply new knowledge related to the optimization and performance validation of Combined Heat and Power plants (CHP) and the integration of diverse power generation sources (including renewables), power demand users through Microgrids.
The ideal candidate should have previous experience using specialized software for modeling and optimization of Microgrids (HOMER, DER-CAM/DEEP, GridLAB-D, MDT, SGCT, Novo-Pro, or similar).
The successful candidate will perform savings analysis of integrated Microgrids comprised of renewable power sources (Solar PV, Wind, Biomass, etc.), energy storage, Reciprocating Engines, Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines, etc. These analysis require sensitivity analysis, and frequently require consideration of alternatives in an iterative development process; persistence, attention to detail, intellectual curiosity and creativity are some of the skills will serve well in this position.

Skills and Experience

  • Intermediate to advanced Excel data analysis and modelling skills are required. Familiarity with other modelling and data analysis tools (e.g., R, Python, etc) is desirable
  • Experience modeling energy systems is required,
    • Experience modeling power plants using Thermoflow, Gate Cycle, Ebsilon or similar power plants thermodynamic modeling experience is desirable
    • Experience with specialized software for modeling and optimization of Microgrids (HOMER, DER-CAM/DEEP, GridLAB-D, MDT, SGCT, Novo-Pro, or similar) is desired.
