The Pratt & Whitney engineering organization is focused on delivering customer requirements, advancing market-differentiating technologies, leading continuous improvement and developing technical leadership. Pratt and Whitney is also the home to a world-class Survivability Engineering Group consisting of IR, RCS, and Vulnerability disciplines. Team members often work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and interact with various disciplines at Pratt & Whitney.
The Vulnerability team works on a diverse array of products supporting military development and production engine programs. The team assesses and performs CBRN, ballistic vulnerability, and Live Fire Testing to ensure the engine systems have the capability to withstand man-made hostile environments.
We are seeking an intern to join our Vulnerability team for the summer of 2020. Our internship is designed to help build your professional credentials, gain real world experience in Survivable Engine Design, develops close working experience with P&W’s engineering teams while encouraging contribution with imaginative solutions for our discipline and military customers. The prospective intern should be prepared to apply his or her learnings in unique and creative ways. The internship will pair you with team members from the Survivability Group and will require you to complete one or more tasks over the course of the summer. Ideal candidate will have taken course work and shown interest in design, physics, propulsion systems, computational finite element modeling, or computer-aided design (e.g., NX, SolidWorks).

Typical duties and responsibilities are listed below and are executed under the guidance of a Senior Engineer and Discipline Chief:
  • Establish geometric modeling methodologies utilizing CAD software
  • Evaluate engine configuration concepts
  • Perform engine systems vulnerability analyses
  • Assists team in generation of presentations to internal and external customers.

Do you meet these Basic Qualifications?

  • US Citizenship is required due to government contracts.
  • You're in an accredited undergraduate engineering degree program.
  • At least two years of college experience in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineer is required
  • Fields of study: Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • You will have at least 30 credits prior to starting your internship
  • You have a GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and consistent record of collaboration, flexibility, innovation and initiative
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • You have a real passion for learning and pursuing a career in engine design
  • Ability to work independently or with teams.
  • General background in propulsion systems design.
  • Working experience of NX, SolidWorks or compatible CAD software.
