Job Description
With more than 1,300 employees, the Allstate Department of Law & Regulation is one of the largest corporate legal departments in the U.S. The Legal Operations division is accountable for the business operations of the Department of Law & Regulation, including technology strategy and support, expense management and planning, the Law Library, outside counsel / vendor management, continuing legal education, and support for the office of the General Counsel.
This is an entry level role, where a person will:
  • Evaluate outside legal spend data to identify opportunities to further manage expenses.
  • Analyze internal data from our matter management and employee timekeeping systems - to achieve operational efficiencies/effectiveness.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage data and data analytics - e.g., to assess law firms, select outside counsel, perform litigation assessments, guide litigation strategy, and crowd-source to better inform key decisions, etc.
  • Explore opportunities to better develop a robust data set from which reports, dashboards and analytics can be produced to better manage expenses, track case outcomes, forecast future expenses, identify trends, and more.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance our current reports and add new reports / dashboards.
  • Perform other miscellaneous tasks, such as executing department practices and procedures, measurement, gathering information for analysis, drafting and administration of surveys, and drafting certain documents and communications.

Job Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of financial and accounting concepts; 1-2 Years Professional and/or Internship Experience
  • Analytical skills to compile information requiring combinations of data from multiple sources, the ability to work with numbers and formulas
  • Solid work ethic, including ability to follow-up, focus on details and take initiative
  • Intellectual curiosity and drive for continuous improvement - personally and with work assignments
  • Oral and written communication skills, able to work effectively with employees both internal and external to the finance function
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment
  • Effective time management and organization skills with a proven ability to multi-task
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required. Working knowledge of Power Point and Word.
  • BA or BS in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Business, Data and Statistics or related area of study
  • Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
