This role sits within our Financial & Risk (“F&R”) business. On January 30, 2018, Thomson Reuters announced that it signed a definitive agreement to enter into a strategic partnership with private equity funds managed by Blackstone related to the company's F&R business. As part of the transaction, Thomson Reuters has agreed to sell a 55% majority stake in Financial & Risk and will retain a 45% interest in the business. Thomson Reuters will maintain full ownership of its Legal, Tax & Accounting and the Reuters News businesses. The transaction is expected to in the second half of the year and is subject to specified regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. Along with the rest of the 3rd shift BETA Operations team, the Computer Operator would be responsible for the successful running of all systems and equipment necessary in a large-scale, 24x7 environment to complete the batch cycle for the night and ensure that all benchmarks are met going into the next day.
Routine duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Monitor the batch cycle, file transfers, mainframe equipment, and mid-range processes using a variety of procedures and tools
  • Respond to system requests and resolving them in a timely manner
  • Manage all incidents from start to resolution, including appropriate escalation, as well as documenting the incidents accurately and thoroughly
  • Interact and effectively communicate both in writing and verbally with co-workers and support teams, as well as a variety of internal and external clients

Hours for the position are 12:00am – 8:00am CT, Tuesday through Saturday. Since the department is staffed 24x7x365 at multiple data centers, the ability to work holidays is required, as is the flexibility to be able to cover additional shifts and/or sites when necessary.
The ideal applicant will have a background working with mainframe systems, including:
  • Experience with IBM mainframe equipment and procedures (HMCs, PORs, IPLs)
  • TSO
  • JCL, including overrides and restarts
  • Scheduling packages (ZEKE)
  • File transfers (NDM and FTP)

Additional knowledge in the following areas is also necessary:
  • PC use, including the Microsoft Office suite
  • Incident management (Service Manager 9)

The ideal candidate will need to have a proactive and professional approach to duties, as well as the ability to prioritize and work independently when necessary. The ability to quickly learn and retain new procedures and software packages is also highly desireable.
