Microsoft Research provides a dynamic environment for research careers with a network of world-class research labs led by globally-recognized scientists and engineers. Our researchers and engineers pursue innovation in a range of scientific and technical disciplines to help solve complex challenges in diverse fields, including computing, healthcare, economics, and the environment.
The Microsoft Healthcare team is working at the intersection of machine learning and biomedicine. We are a diverse team of engineers, scientists and medical doctors who are working to empower individuals, doctors and providers to improve health outcomes through more intelligent use of more precise data. Our team selects concrete challenges in healthcare and develops end-to-end solutions through machine learning, signal processing, novel sensing, cloud services, and hardware.

Responsibilities

Interns put inquiry and theory into practice. Alongside fellow doctoral candidates and some of the world’s best researchers, interns learn, collaborate, and network for life. Interns not only advance their own careers, but they also contribute to exciting research and development strides. During the 12-week internship, students are paired with mentors and expected to collaborate with other interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant life of the community. Research internships are available in all areas of research, and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer.
We are looking for a research intern with expertise in biophysical and hemodynamic modeling to help us develop, implement, and evaluate models of wave propagation the cardiovascular system. The goal will be to construct such models using established or novel techniques, to evaluate their accuracy relative to experimental data, and to leverage models to inform new sensing techniques and approaches. The ideal candidate would be very familiar with approaches for modeling biophysical properties of the heart and arterial tree, such as Windkessel or other lumped-parameter models (0-D), Navier-Stokes models (1-D), and/or full 3-D numerical models.
