This is an exciting opportunity to join a large, complex and welcoming Faculty with an exceptional international record in teaching and research. We are looking for an enthusiastic and versatile person with excellent administrative skills to make a positive contribution to our team and to help shape our key services.
The Year Abroad is a complex and compulsory element of the Faculty's four-year modern languages undergraduate courses. The Year Abroad Secretary provides advice and guidance for students planning their Year Abroad (in Years 1 & 2), and whilst they are away (in Year 3). The role holder will work in partnership with a wide range of academic and administrative staff across the Faculty and the collegiate University to ensure that students are fully prepared for, and supported, during their Year Abroad.
You will have excellent communication and organisational skills as well as proven competence in a wide range of IT packages. You will have experience of working in a relevant administrative post (preferably in the HE sector) in a fast-paced environment. You will be a team player with a commitment to providing a high quality service to students, staff and other stakeholders. You will work collaboratively within your immediate team, and across Faculty and School services, sharing best practice and facilitating continuous improvement. You must also be able to work independently, acting effectively on your own initiative, with the ability to review processes and introduce new ways of working (where appropriate) in order to ensure the continued provision of an excellent service.
This role is a job share and the successful applicant will be required to work 18.25 hours per week spread over at least 3 days. As we have an operational need for the Year Abroad Office to be open throughout the working week, and to coincide with the existing working pattern of the job share partner, the hours would ideally be worked during the first half of the week. The precise working pattern will be agreed with the Faculty Manager on appointment. The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
