You are a Electrical/Control Engineer with a background and interest in PLC Hardware and programming. You have experience with commercial automation system hardware. You will join a small team of engineers, physicists and technicians to work on the CMS detector safety (DSS) and control (DCS) systems.
We are looking for a candidate that in particular:
- will play a key role in developing a common hardware framework in the project that unifies the safety and control systems for all future CMS "cold" detectors (Tracker, High-Granularity Calorimeter (HGCAL), MIP-Timing Detector (MTD) and Electromagnetic Calorimeter (ECAL)) for the Phase-2 LHC Upgrade.
This hardware, based on commercial PLCs, will require selection, procurement, testing, software development and integration into the global CMS DSS/DCS. This development will be used also for the assembly phases of the cold detectors, beginning with ECAL and continuing with the Tracker, HGCAL and then MTD. The work will require rationalization of existing hardware as well as implementation of new devices. All systems must be implemented according to the CMS and CERN standard safety rules and the CERN JCOP guidelines.
- participate to ECAL DCS maintenance and on-call operations and will lead ECAL Phase-2 developments in the context described above.
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State;
- You have a Master's degree and between 2 and 6 years' experience or PhD with up to 3 years of relevant experience in Electronic Engineering or Applied Physics or other related field;
- You should have a working knowledge of English or French.
Skills and/or knowledge:
- Proven experience in:
- PLC Hardware and programming
- Experience with commercial automation system hardware
- Knowledge of electro-mechanical norms and rules
- Software knowledge and experience in Siemens automatization software (esp. WinCC-OA)
- CERN-related PLC based automatization knowledge as well as JCOP implementation would be an asset.
What we offer:
- An employment contract of in principle 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months;
- On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French;
- A monthly stipend ranging between 6050 and 6650 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax);
- Coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund;
- Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract;
- 30 days of paid leave per year.
