The cohort starts in June and applicants must have received their degree prior to cohort start date. We’re looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas within the skills of the future- Digital Products, Cyber Security, Data Analytics, Embedded Systems, Model Based Development, Software, Systems and UI Development. Carrier’s Graduate Hire Program provides a hands-on engineering experience in a supported, closely mentored cohort. Associates of the Graduate Hire Program will obtain career development opportunities, exposure to leadership and will develop a strong professional network. The goal of the Carrier’s Graduate Hire Program is to help early career professionals become productive and successful engineers within the one year development program.
Job Responsibilities
  • Work with global, cross disciplinary teams to apply model based design and verification tools and methods to create the next generation of high efficiency and environmentally friendly HVAC&R compressors & systems.
  • Develop physics based thermal and mechanical models of compressors used in HVAC&R systems. Perform model calibration, validation, and physics-based analysis of system behaviors.
  • Understand the physics of the compression process and interaction with system components to advance existing positive displacement compressor models to improve performance prediction, speed and quality of design.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve numerical issues in simulations.
  • Deliver solutions that are most cost effective, efficient, and reliable. Develop & review qualification plans for components in compressors in situ and at the supplier.
  • Create documentation including technical requirements, functional specifications, design specifications, qualification test plans, reports, and engineering change notices.
  • Evaluate new technologies and interact with suppliers to define “best-in-class” compressor solutions for HVAC&R applications.
  • Evaluate failures to determine root cause and corrective actions.
  • Work with laboratory to provide experimental validation of newly developed compressor models.
  • Apply knowledge of DOE, FMEA, tolerance analysis, simulation and statistical methods to improve robustness and quality of compressor designs.

Education
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering with 0 to 4 plus years of related experience.
  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering with 0 to 2 plus years of related experience.

Experience/Qualifications
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and background in areas of Mechanics of Materials, Machine Design, Vibration and Statistics or Reliability.
  • Knowledge of Thermodynamics and Fluid Dynamics
  • Experience with modeling tools such as MATLAB, Finite Element Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and machine learning techniques.
  • Innovative with strong verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment and high energy.
  • Self-motivated, willing to work on a variety of projects, and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Capable of working in a team oriented environment across a multi-cultural global organization.

Additional Comments
  • Familiarity with Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning systems highly desirable.
  • Experience with positive displacement compressors is preferred.
  • Some travel will be involved.
