Software Engineering Co-op

In this co-op you will have the opportunity to learn about software engineering from a large, world-class avionic system. Our co-ops are treated as a new full time engineer and given meaningful work that you will be able to own and complete with the guidance of other full time engineers on the team as needed. Additional background and skills in the area of avionics, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), computer systems, computer networks, requirements decomposition, software development, and test execution will help. Looking for an enthusiastic, self-starter that is not afraid to dive in on something new. They must be willing to ask questions and be well organized to take notes to help keep track of work assignments and instructions provided. Benefits students should expect to gain from this co-op include:
  • Seeing how to apply Agile Development (using the SAFe Framework)
  • Understanding how subsystems use high level system requirements to produce the low level requirements which drive changes in software and testing output
  • Understanding how to execute a system test on an avionics program - will learn a little about how a pilot uses an avionics system and how to operate a cockpit type environment
  • Gain valuable exposure and experience to common tools used across the industry, such as Visual Studio, LynxOs, Python, Matlab, VAPS, and many others.

A successful candidate must possess the following:

  • Candidate must be able to obtain and retain a security clearance
  • U.S. citizenship is required
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline
  • Follow the project's defined systems and software process for design, development, verification and configuration management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well with others in a professional team environment
  • Collaborate with engineers and generate a positive team working environment
  • Motivated self-starter with good analytical skills
  • Willingness to learn and be flexible

A successful candidate should possess the following:
  • Embedded C/C++ or Python software development knowledge
  • Familiar with various operating systems (Linux, Windows)

A successful candidate may possess the following:

  • Configuration management tools and processes knowledge
  • Experience with Agile development methodology
  • Familiar with real time operating systems (i.e. LynxOs, Sel4, Green Hills, etc...)
