As systems grow in deployment, so does the data it contains. Very large Command & Control systems handle multiple emergency services for a major region or a country with millions of inhabitants. The data contained in the solution could be every emergency call made for the last 2 years with millions of data records. At the same time, a system of such size needs 1000s of logged-in users with real-time access to that data and situational picture. In order to ensure the high availability of data in such a system data architecture is of prime importance.
Description of the master thesis
There are many aspects to this problem and a thesis should be scoped accordingly.
The two main aspects are:
- How to handle the amount of data in an efficient manner. For instance comparing Database (relational/graph/document), ORM layer (nHibernate), Caching, Database optimisation, Data sharding.
- How to ensure all users have up-to-date information at all times.
Explain the technology
Explain how it can be used in command and control (C2) systems
Compare to the existing structure in Saab´s C2 system
Find bottleneck in the Saab C2 system
Develop an example application providing proof of concept
We are looking for 1 or 2 master degree students with an interest in:
Large scale solutions
You are at the end of your master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, and are eligible for your 30 HP degree project.
You will collaborate with experienced engineers and professionals in an environment that fosters career development and personal growth.
