Master thesis: Ultra-Low Power IoT Booking Device hos Syntronic

Title:

Ultra-Low Power IoT Booking Device

Description of the thesis proposal:

In this project, an IoT solution for a room booking service will be implemented and evaluated.

Here, we propose to investigate the concept of a dedicated device to simplify the monitoring and the on-the-spot room bookings for the conference rooms in an office environment.

The device should provide an interface to allow users to monitor and conveniently schedule bookings. By wireless communication and self-sufficient power supply, the device is easily deployable and require low maintenance.

In order to be self-sufficient in an office environment, we suggest the booking device needs to be designed as ultra-low harvesting circuit that could be sustainable with solar panels.

We suggest that the device wakes up in regular intervals throughout the day and utilizes low power protocol to exchange messages with a base station hub that manages resources and API requests to the calendar service provider to minimize the battery usage.

The Battery levels is monitored in the wake-up routine and used to dynamically estimate and adjust the wake-up interval according to light conditions.
Weather data could also be relayed to the device from the hub station to help estimate light levels.

Features:

  • Sustainable IoT device utilizing solar panels
  • Circuit to harvest and store energy
  • Low Power transceiver microcontroller circuit
  • Battery Monitoring
  • Ultra-Low Power display technology
  • Low Power Communication protocol

What we’re looking for:

The proposed project will require a dedicated student with interests in embedded programming and low-power design. Depending on the applicant’s background and interests, we are flexible in the exact scope of the thesis project.

What we offer:

Experience working life at a global company that develops tomorrow’s technology, through our student collaboration scheme.

At Syntronic, we acknowledge that most great achievements start with a university degree and a dream. Although our team of 1500+ highly qualified experts are active on three continents, the first chapter of our story was written by a young graduate student with a vision.

At Syntronic, we give you as a student the opportunity to produce your degree project in collaboration with us. The offer adds a real-life element to your education. You will meet experts in your future field of work and experience the technology industry first-hand.

Application:

We look forward to receiving your resume and, preferably, a personal letter in which you explain why want to write your master’s thesis with Syntronic.

We screen and evaluate applications on an ongoing basis.
